Adamawa Police Arrest 57 Suspects in Crackdown on Shilla Gang Activities

The Adamawa State Police Command has detained 57 individuals as part of a sustained effort to curb Shilla gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance, and other criminal activities throughout the state.

The operation was led by Commissioner of Police Kabiru Umar Hassan.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje announced that the suspects have been charged and sent to court.

He said the arrests were carried out during a coordinated sweep of identified criminal hideouts and hot spots in the Jimeta and Yola metropolitan areas.

“The operation, which was carried out by Divisional Police Officers under the supervision of their Area Commanders, yielded positive results with the arrest of 57 suspects for offences bordering on Shilla‑related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons and involvement with prohibited substances,” the statement read.

Nguroje also revealed that operatives seized a range of dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances from the suspects during the exercise.

He added that all recovered items had been documented and will be presented as evidence in the prosecution.

Nguroje said the suspects were arraigned in court in accordance with the law, while profiling and further investigations continue to determine any additional criminal involvement.

Commissioner Hassan praised the officers who took part in the operation for their professionalism and dedication, assuring residents that the command remains committed to dismantling criminal gangs and preserving peace across the state.

He also urged the public to stay vigilant and keep providing credible, timely information to aid crime prevention and detection efforts.
