Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has formally introduced Senator Solomon Adeola of the Ogun West Senatorial District to the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the region as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Empire Ground in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, with Governor Abiodun, state party chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, and members of the state executive committee in attendance.

Abiodun explained that selecting a candidate from Ogun West was intended to address a long‑standing imbalance, noting that the district has not produced a governor since Ogun State was created roughly fifty years ago.

He said the consensus arrangement resulted from extensive consultations and was formally ratified at a state caucus meeting in Abeokuta, where Adeola received unanimous endorsement.

Abiodun described the emergence of a consensus candidate as a significant political milestone and claimed the model could serve as an example for other states.

The governor urged party members to stay united as the election approaches and assured aspirants who were not selected that the party would adequately compensate all “serious candidates.”

He also thanked the people of Yewaland for their steadfast support during the 2023 governorship election and pledged that his administration would continue to distribute development projects equitably across the state.

Abiodun announced that the party’s direct primary elections would begin on Friday and called on members to conduct themselves peacefully, avoiding any actions that could undermine the process’s integrity.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters for their confidence, stating, “I want, on behalf of myself, my family, and supporters across the APC, to accept this endorsement by the people of Ogun West Senatorial District as the gubernatorial candidate of our great party ahead of the February 6, 2027 governorship election.”

“I do not take this endorsement for granted, and I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the APC for this great honour,” he added.

He pledged to tour all 236 wards in the state after the primaries and urged party members to remain united and work together to secure APC’s success at the polls.
