Abia State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, CC Chukwuemeka Odimba, assured the management of federal government unity schools in Abia of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding their students, staff, and facilities.
Odimba delivered the reassurance at Federal Government College (FGC) Ohafia during his visit to unity schools in the state.
He stated that protecting Nigerian students is a priority for the NSCDC, noting that the visit was part of measures ordered by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, to strengthen security in unity schools across the federation.
He explained that the national Safe School Initiative of the federal government, administered through NSCDC, is aimed at ensuring the safety of staff, students, learning facilities, and a peaceful academic environment.
He added that surveillance and patrols within the schools would be increased, and that a detachment of the NSCDC counter‑terrorism team in the command will be deployed to work closely with the principals and chief security officers of the unity schools.
The NSCDC Commandant also visited Federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, where he discussed with the school’s management the best ways to effectively secure female students, staff, and property.
In response, the principals of FGC Ohafia, Mr Chukwuemeka Ezeoba, and of Umuahia, Mrs Umunnakwe Joy, thanked the Abia NSCDC Commandant for his interest in protecting the students, staff, and facilities.
