The Abia State Government inaugurated the Monitoring and Evaluation Committee for the Abia State Strategy on Accountability, Integrity and Anti‑corruption (ABSIAS), directing its members to support the state's anti‑corruption framework.

On Friday, Abia State Head of Service Benson Ojeikere delivered the charge during the inauguration of the committee, which includes lawyers, journalists, civil servants and civil society representatives.

Ojeikere, represented by Ukeje Uche Ukpabi, instructed the committee members to lead the anti‑corruption campaign.

He tasked the members with carrying out their duties impartially, by monitoring project progress, pinpointing bottlenecks, and ensuring that projects and programs comply with the state's anti‑corruption framework.

During her remarks, Professor Ada‑Chidi Igbokwe, Lead Consultant of the Rule of Law and Anti‑corruption Program (ROLAC), stated that the committee is tasked with supporting the state's framework for preventing corruption in the public sector.

Igbokwe expressed concern that many government policies and laws nationwide remain unimplemented or unenforced, leading to program failures.

Mr. Peter Omenka, Abia State Coordinator of ROLAC, instructed the committee members to produce evidence‑based reports from the anti‑corruption units of ministries, departments and agencies, enabling the steering committee to monitor activities in Abia State MDAs.

He added that the committee's reports would improve access to justice for women, children and persons with disabilities, and strengthen accountability in Abia State.
