About 100 former students of Abia State College of Education (Technical) – ASCETA Arochukwu – received their diplomas from the institution on Thursday, May 21, 2026, more than 25 years after completing their studies.

The graduates, who came from various parts of Nigeria, were handed certificates by the college’s management on that day. The event was announced in a statement released by the college.

According to the statement, the graduating cohorts span from 1999 to 2025. The college confirmed that a total of 681 certificates were ready for collection and urged all affected graduates to come to the campus to obtain their documents.

“On Thursday, 21st May 2026, about 100 graduates from different parts of Nigeria returned to Abia State College of Education Technical Arochukwu to collect their certificates, with graduating sets spanning from 1999 to 2025,” the ASCETA management said. “A total of 681 certificates are ready for collection. All concerned graduates are encouraged to visit the institution and collect theirs.”

The college has faced years of instability, including poor funding, alleged embezzlement, frequent changes in provosts, dismissal of staff, and protests over inadequate welfare. These challenges, coupled with inadequate infrastructure, disputes between management and labour unions, declining enrollment, delayed result releases, and a slow clearance process, forced many students to abandon their certificates or seek admission elsewhere.
