The Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has denied allegations that it allowed a non‑party member to win its governorship primary election.

Daily Post reports that last week several senior party figures, including Mezie Chiekwe Esiaga and Ndubuisi Eme, warned that the APC could suffer a major defeat if the governorship ticket was not awarded to former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh.

Responding to the controversy on Monday, the Abia APC stated that the primary election, won by Eric Opah, was conducted transparently and was not manipulated in favor of any individual.

Uche Aguoru, the Publicity Secretary of Abia APC, addressed the press at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia and dismissed the claim that a non‑party member had been imposed as the candidate.

Aguoru explained that Opah has been a long‑time member of the party, refuting accusations that he was brought in through a back‑door process.

He noted that Opah received 125,977 votes, defeating former minister Henry Ikoh, who secured only 5,905 votes.

Aguoru alleged that members who threaten to oppose the party in the 2027 election are being sponsored by an opposition party in Abia State to embarrass the APC.

He asserted that Abia APC remains united for the 2027 polls, contrasting this with the Labour Party, which is the ruling party in the state and is reportedly presenting two factions.
