By Christopher Ameh

Police officers from the Bauchi State Police Command have detained a 70‑year‑old man on charges of raping a 10‑year‑old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The case was brought to authorities by the victim’s 40‑year‑old father, who lives in Magama Gumau. He and his daughter alleged that Hamza Yahaya, a 70‑year‑old resident of the same address, lured the child to a hideout in the area and sexually assaulted her.

After receiving the complaint, detectives from the Toro Division responded promptly and arrested the suspect. During questioning, Yahaya denied the recent allegation but admitted to having sexually assaulted the same victim on three prior occasions at the same location.

Both the child and the accused were transported to General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment. Yahaya has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani‑Omolori Aliyu condemned the alleged crime and reiterated the Command’s zero‑tolerance policy toward offenses against children. He assured the public that the matter would be pursued rigorously to secure justice.

The Command urges parents, guardians, and community members to remain alert and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the safety and well‑being of children.
