An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale struck southern Iran early Tuesday, causing shaking in parts of Hormozgan province.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported the event on Tuesday.

It identified the epicenter as 113 km northeast of Bandar Abbas.

According to the Centre, the port’s water area lies north of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route that has been blocked by the United States and Iran since the war began.

The quake occurred one day after the Philippines was hit by the strongest earthquake in decades, which killed at least 37 people.

At the time of writing, there are no reports of casualties or damage.
