Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, declared that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s presidential aspirations are “dead on arrival.”

Wike said Makinde’s choice to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in pursuit of a presidential bid would not succeed.

The comment came after Makinde announced his intention to run for president on the APM platform in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday.

Makinde’s announcement followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between his faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and APM.

Wike added that Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has never discussed a PDP‑APM alliance, describing the claim as a political fabrication.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday while inspecting ongoing road projects in Gomani‑Yangoje, Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Wike said: “What you have is Seyi Makinde joining APM to be able to actualize his presidential ambition, which is already dead on arrival.”

“It’s unfortunate. We know that has been his game plan and we would say he cannot fly the flag of PDP,” he added.

The minister also responded to comments attributed to Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara about his continued membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the governor has not asked anyone to pity him.

“Sorry for what? Why are you saying problem when nobody has told you he has a problem?” Wike asked. “The man has told you he still remains APC. So what is the problem now?”
