The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has selected Senator Yakubu Lado‑Danmarke as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The decision was announced on Sunday by the party’s returning officer, Nuraddeen Sani‑Kankara, during the PDP governorship primary held in Katsina.

According to Sani‑Kankara, the primary complied with the Electoral Act 2026, the PDP constitution, and the party’s electoral guidelines.

He reported that 77,085 delegates were accredited for the exercise, and 77,013 valid votes were cast in favor of Lado‑Danmarke.

Sani‑Kankara noted that 72 accredited delegates were unable to vote because they arrived after the accreditation period had closed.

He declared Lado‑Danmarke the consensus candidate, citing the majority of lawful votes cast.

Katsina State PDP Chairman Nura Amadi‑Kurfi said the choice was made to promote cohesion, stability, and electoral success.

Amadi‑Kurfi described Lado‑Danmarke as an experienced politician capable of repositioning the state and delivering purposeful leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Lado‑Danmarke thanked party leaders and stakeholders for their confidence, pledging inclusive leadership, transparency, and people‑oriented governance if elected.

He urged party members to stay united and intensify mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that the PDP remains committed to tackling insecurity, unemployment, and poverty in Katsina State.
