2027: Sam Egwu, Galadima, and Others Named to NDC Screening Committee

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has formed a 17‑member screening committee to vet presidential, governorship and National Assembly aspirants, with former Ebonyi State governor and Senator Sam Egwu appointed as chairman.

In a statement released on Tuesday by NDC National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Enekweizu, the party announced that Barrister Reuben Egwuaba, the NDC National Legal Adviser, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee’s other members include Comrade Babatunde Ali as deputy chairman; Alhaji Buba Galadima; Hon. Mohammed Sani Takori; Mr. Daniel Onifade; Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo; Mr. Wole Adedayo; Dr. Osusu Osusu; Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji; Prof. Udenta Udenta; Barr. Frederick Owotorufa; Hannatu Tanko; Mr. Dogo Shammar; Sir Henry Obaze; Mr. Clement Agiagie; and Barr. Fatima Musa Abba.

The NDC’s statement read, “The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced a 17‑member Screening Committee for its Presidential, Governorship, Senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants.”

“The Committee, which is to be inaugurated at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, is headed by former two‑term Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Sen. Sam Egwu.”

National Secretary Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu added, “Egwu, a former Senator of the Federal Republic, will serve as Chairman, while Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, the NDC National Legal Adviser, will serve as Secretary of the committee.”

He further listed the committee’s composition: “Other members of the committee, which is a mix of party leaders, tested professionals and some members of the NDC National Working Committee, include: Comrade Babatunde Ali – Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Buba Galadima – Member, Hon. Mohammed Sani Takori – Member, Mr. Daniel Onifade – Member, Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo – Member, Mr. Wole Adedayo – Member, Dr. Osusu Osusu – Member, Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji – Member, Prof. Udenta Udenta – Member, Barr.
