Chima Matthew Amadi has been selected as the Action Peoples Party (APP) senatorial candidate for Imo East (Owerri Zone) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The primary took place at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri, the state capital. Delegates, stakeholders, and APP leaders unanimously chose Amadi as the consensus candidate.

The congress, which attracted large participation from all nine local government areas of Owerri Zone, was marked by unity, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to purposeful, people‑centered leadership.

Amadi’s emergence followed a motion moved by Hon. Ugochukwu Metford Nnah, the LGA party chairman of Mbaitoli, and seconded by Engr. Henry Alaribe, the zonal chairman of the party.

The motion received overwhelming support from delegates and stakeholders present, reflecting broad confidence in Amadi’s leadership and senatorial aspirations.

The congress was conducted by a team led by Barrister Obed Agor and witnessed by the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner and members of the INEC monitoring team, underscoring the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and due process.

Other prominent party leaders attended, including National Chairman Barrister Uche Nnadi; members of the National Executive Committee; party members of the National Assembly; newly emerged House of Representatives candidates; and additional stakeholders, whose presence highlighted the party’s unity, strength, and growing structure.

Choosing Amadi as the consensus candidate reflects growing confidence in his leadership, political maturity, grassroots acceptability, and unwavering commitment to advancing Imo East Senatorial Zone and Imo State as a whole.

At a time when voters seek effective representation, courageous advocacy, and visionary leadership, the APP has resolved to present a candidate whose record of engagement and service inspires hope and public confidence.

Stakeholders and delegates described Amadi as a bridge‑builder, a grassroots mobilizer, and a leader with the intellectual depth and political experience needed to represent Owerri Zone at the National Assembly.

They emphasized that his emergence resulted from extensive consultations and broad‑based consensus among party faithful who believe the zone deserves a senator who combines competence with compassion, accessibility, and integrity.

This was stated in a statement issued on Saturday by Cajetan Duke, the Chief Press Secretary, and released to journalists in Owerri.

The party noted that Amadi’s widespread acceptance among youths, women, professionals, and community leaders across the zone stems from his consistent engagement in humanitarian interventions, empowerment initiatives, and community development efforts.

His political philosophy—prioritizing inclusiveness, accountability, and service‑driven leadership—continues to resonate strongly with the people’s aspirations.

The APP emphasized that Imo East Senatorial Zone requires representation that moves beyond rhetoric and ceremonial politics.

Party leaders said the zone needs a senator with deep governance knowledge, strong legislative competence, and the courage to effectively articulate and defend the people’s interests at the National Assembly. They maintain that Amadi possesses these attributes in abundance.

The congress reaffirmed the APP’s commitment to internal democracy, party unity, and issue‑based politics focused on development, transparency, and good governance. Stakeholders praised the peaceful conduct of delegates throughout the nomination process, describing the outcome as a triumph of collective will and democratic maturity within the party structure.

In his acceptance speech, the Umuekwenne, Ngor Okpala‑born scholar and social entrepreneur, expressed the honour as both humbling and challenging.

He assured that the journey to redesign Imo State’s governance architecture begins with a presence in the National Assembly, while stressing that government must work for the people and that true leadership is defined by service, accountability, and measurable impact on citizens’ lives.

Amadi also condemned the spate of insecurity and the avoidable loss of innocent lives in the state, expressing concern over perceived governmental indifference. He reassured the people that the journey to Imo redemption has begun.
