Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh, said that supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are not afraid of rumours that former President Goodluck Jonathan might return to the presidential race in 2027.

Umeh made the comments on Thursday during a live interview on Trust TV, emphasizing that Jonathan’s alleged ambition would not weaken Obi’s support base or affect his chances in the next general election.

The chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, added that every major political figure has his own base, and that Obi’s supporters remain committed and have continued to grow since the 2023 presidential election.

“We’re not concerned. Why should we be scared? We cannot be scared. Every individual has his own base and followers. What Obi has now is sufficient to make an impact again in 2027 and win the election,” he said.

According to him, Obi had built a strong political movement that could not be easily displaced by the entrance of another aspirant.

The lawmaker reiterated that Obi had consulted Jonathan several times on his political plans before reports emerged that the former President might be considering a return to the race.

He stressed that Jonathan never told Obi during those consultations that he had plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
