2027: PDP Responds to Court Ruling Confirming Jonathan’s Eligibility for President

The Taminu Turaki‑led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) welcomed the decision of the Abuja Federal High Court that confirmed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s eligibility to run in the 2027 presidential election.

Ini Ememobong, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, said the ruling was “clearly in alignment with the law and common sense,” noting that laws cannot be applied retroactively.

Ememobong described the lawsuit as a “gross abuse of court processes” and an unnecessary distraction that should not have been initiated in the first place.

She added that the punitive sanction imposed on the plaintiff was “very much welcomed” and would serve as a deterrent to those who seek to derail democracy by providing a platform for “busybodies and irritants.”

“This development, coupled with the screening waiver that our party granted President Goodluck Jonathan, has made the pathway for his presidential rescue mission totally unfettered, especially as the party’s primaries to select all its candidates will be held on May 28, 2026,” the statement read.
