The Taminu Turaki‑led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to run for president is not driven by personal ambition but by a call from Nigerians.
Ini Ememobong, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, made the statement on Saturday while speaking with journalists after the PDP camp named Jonathan as its presidential candidate in absentia.
Ememobong said, “At a time like this, Goodluck Jonathan’s running is not his ambition but a call from the people for him to run.”
“The next four years must be a period of healing, restoration, patience and nation‑building, and who is best suited to lead that effort? The man best suited to do that is Goodluck Jonathan,” he added.
Jonathan has yet to make any public comment about whether he will actually contest.
