Chibuzo Okereke, a legislative consultant and public policy analyst, argues that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s real objective is not a presidential run but the creation of political momentum.
Okereke made this observation on Friday during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time.”
He said that Makinde is facing significant political pressure.
Okereke noted that following the 2023 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost all senatorial seats in Oyo while retaining the governorship.
He added that this outcome came after the G5 arrangement that helped shape President Tinubu’s rise.
“Well, I think first of all, it is within his democratic right to seek for the office of the presidency. I mean, the qualifying credentials are there,” Okereke said. “But I think that strategically speaking, he is mobilizing support to ensure there is momentum for a successor. If you look at this, it appears to be a strategic political hedging for him. I don’t really think that his push is more about himself getting to the presidency,” he added.
