Two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola as its 2027 Ogun State governorship candidate, the party selected Chartered Accountant Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa‑Balogun as the deputy governorship nominee on Sunday.

The nomination was made at the APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.

Adegunwa‑Balogun hails from Ososa Town in Odogbolu Local Government. She is the daughter of industrialist Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of RITE FOODS.

During the meeting, attended by party leaders and stakeholders, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the choice, explaining that the candidate was selected after careful consideration of various factors.

Abiodun said the way APC candidates were chosen for the 2027 election in Ogun State has become a model for other states.

He praised aspirants who stepped down in line with the consensus arrangement, noting that the party would compensate those who complied. Some aspirants had been earmarked for positions such as commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants to promote inclusiveness.

Speaking about the deputy governorship candidate, the APC governorship candidate noted that he had known her for over 27 years through his husband, a three‑term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to Adeola, she was chosen from 17 women who expressed interest in the deputy governorship and were highly qualified.

The senator said Abiodun played a key role in selecting his running mate and commended him for his leadership in running the party and for ensuring a rancour‑free consensus arrangement and primaries.

In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa‑Balogun thanked Abiodun and party leaders for their confidence in her, vowing not to betray it.

She pledged to work with her principal to advance Ogun State, saying the party leaders’ actions demonstrate inclusiveness.
