Two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Ogun State, the APC announced the selection of Chartered Accountant Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa‑Balogun as its deputy governorship candidate.

The nomination was made at an APC Strategic Caucus Meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adegunwa‑Balogun hails from Ososa Town in Odogbolu Local Government. She is the daughter of industrialist Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of RITE FOODS.

During the meeting, attended by party leaders and stakeholders, Governor Dapo Abiodun explained that the candidate was chosen after careful consideration of various factors.

Abiodun said that the way APC candidates were selected for the 2027 election in Ogun State had become a model for other states.

He praised aspirants who stepped down in line with the consensus arrangement, noting that the party had compensated those who complied by offering positions such as commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants to promote inclusiveness.

Speaking about the deputy governorship candidate, Adeola said he had known her for over 27 years through her husband, who served three terms in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to Adeola, the candidate was chosen from among 17 women who expressed interest in the deputy governorship and were deemed eminently qualified.

The senator added that Governor Abiodun had played a significant role in selecting his running mate and commended the governor for providing strong leadership in running the party and ensuring a rancour‑free consensus arrangement and primaries.

In her acceptance speech, the deputy governorship candidate thanked Abiodun and party leaders for their confidence in her, vowing not to betray it.

She pledged to work with her principal to advance Ogun State, noting that the actions of party leaders demonstrated inclusiveness.
