The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the public—particularly its members in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and other affected states—to ignore the candidate lists that have been widely shared on social media, stating that those lists are not the official NDC roster.
In a statement signed by National Secretary Bar. Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party confirmed that the circulating lists are fabricated and did not originate from the NDC headquarters.
The statement added, “Our party has since submitted the authentic candidate lists that will represent our flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the proper channels approved by the Electoral Act.”
“The lists in circulation are being disseminated by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well,” the statement continued.
It also noted that the NDC is investigating the sources of these fabrications and leakages, describing the situation as an attempt to sow ill will and create distractions within the party.
“This is to reassure our members that the NDC is firmly committed to building a party that will serve as a vehicle to liberate Nigeria from its current precarious state with the cooperation of everyone,” it added.
In related developments, the NDC has recently required its public office‑seeking members to sign anti‑defection documents.
The Memorandum of Understanding obliges candidates running for elective office on the NDC platform to sign legal documents that commit them to vacate their positions if they leave the party after being elected.
