The Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Prof Okey Ikechukwu, claims that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s defection is a plot aimed at dividing Southern votes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ikechukwu made the remark on Thursday during a guest appearance on Arise Television.
He was responding to Makinde’s move to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and his subsequent announcement of a presidential bid within that party.
“Makinde’s switch to the APM is a conspiracy designed to split Southern votes. Before we discuss whether this is a multi‑party system, there is one critical issue,” he said.
“That issue is the complete collapse of the PDP. The party is so fractured that it is unclear which faction truly represents the PDP.”
“Whether Makinde pursues an extreme campaign or whether FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies devote all resources to the election, one thing is clear: the PDP will not be a national force.”
“It will have little impact and may even fail to field a candidate for 2027. If it does nominate someone, the candidate will likely serve to split the vote,” he added.
