The Kwankwasiyya Movement has clarified that Rabi’u Kwankwaso, a senior figure in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), never engaged in any defection talks with President Bola Tinubu.

Spokesperson Habibu Mohammed made the statement on Friday during Arise Television’s “Morning Show.”

Mohammed emphasized that Kwankwaso would not need encouragement to collaborate with the President if he chose to do so. He described the relationship between the two leaders as long‑standing, noting that they have worked together in the National Assembly and were instrumental in the formation of the All‑Progressive Congress (APC).

“In the early days of Tinubu’s administration, he invited Kwankwaso to a private meeting to discuss a potential partnership, which Kwankwaso later disclosed,” Mohammed said. “However, Kwankwaso declined to join the Tinubu administration. Before his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he had already established a working relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.”
