2027: INEC ready for transparent elections in Benue — REC

Aminu Idris, the newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Benue State, has formally assumed leadership of the commission in the state.

Idris reiterated INEC’s commitment to ensuring credible electoral processes in preparation for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that every eligible Nigerian should have the chance to participate in the democratic process.

Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, the REC highlighted the media’s essential role in strengthening democracy by accurately conveying electoral information and raising public awareness about the commission’s activities.

He also noted that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise has entered its third and final phase, urging residents who have not yet registered to do so before the exercise concludes.

Regarding the restoration of state constituencies, Idris reported that the process has been completed in four of the five affected local government areas.

The REC assured Benue residents that INEC would continue to carry out its duties with fairness, transparency, and professionalism, in accordance with its constitutional mandate.
