Former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan‑Iya, has been selected as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto.
Dan‑Iya won the party’s nomination after the ADC held a primary election that spanned all 244 wards in the state’s 23 local government areas.
Chief Returning Officer Prof. Aminu Abubakar Illela announced that Dan‑Iya received 52,831 votes, securing the ticket.
“Consequently, I hereby declare you as the ADC candidate for the 2027 general elections,” Illela said as he released the results.
In his acceptance address, Dan‑Iya thanked party members for their confidence and pledged to honor the mandate given to him.
He expressed confidence that the ADC could defeat the ruling party in the upcoming elections and urged members to stay united in the run‑up to the polls.
Dan‑Iya also acknowledged the support of former Sokoto governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, along with other party leaders and stakeholders.
Tambuwal, speaking at the event, reaffirmed the ADC’s confidence in winning the 2027 election and highlighted the party’s efforts to give young people opportunities to contest elective positions.
He called on party members to remain patient, resilient, and committed to ensuring the party’s success at the polls.
