Three cleared presidential aspirants of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), including former Cross River State governor Donald Duke, have declined a consensus arrangement and will contest the party’s presidential primaries on Monday.

The decision comes as political parties sharpen their preparations for the 2027 general elections, amid increasing public criticism of imposed candidates, internal disputes and behind‑the‑scenes deals during primaries.

In a statement from PRP National Publicity Secretary Muhammed Ishaq, the party said the aspirants had agreed to submit their ambitions to the will of party members during the nationwide exercise.

The aspirants are Dr Nnaoke Ufere of Abia State, Engr (Dr) Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley of Edo State, and Donald Duke.

“The three cleared presidential aspirants of the Peoples Redemption Party have convened and unanimously agreed to submit their aspirations to the will of our party members during upcoming primaries scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, across all parts of the country,” Ishaq said.

He added that the decision reflected the aspirants’ commitment to internal democracy and teamwork ahead of the elections.

According to Ishaq, the PRP remains dedicated to a transparent and credible process for aspirants contesting elective offices nationwide.

“We are committed to conducting credible, transparent, and free primaries, involving over 260 aspirants competing for various elective offices, especially in instances where consensus is not achievable,” Ishaq said.
