Adedeji Doherty, the PDP candidate for Lagos State governor, announced his intention to contest the 2027 election against the ruling APC, presenting a development agenda that prioritizes security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.

During a media briefing in Abuja, Doherty said the PDP is entering a new phase in Lagos politics and expressed confidence that the party can offer an alternative vision for the state.

The PDP’s South‑West National Vice‑Chairman emphasized his long‑standing loyalty to the party, noting that he has remained with the PDP throughout his career and has held leadership roles at state, zonal, and national levels.

“This is a new chapter for the PDP in Lagos State. We are determined to offer Lagosians a credible alternative and provide solutions to the challenges facing the state,” he said.

Doherty described Lagos as Nigeria’s economic and financial nerve centre and argued that the state’s development is essential to the success of national economic policies.

He said that federal economic reforms will reach their full potential only if complemented by effective governance and strategic investments in Lagos.

He expressed concern about gaps in critical sectors—education, healthcare, transportation, and urban development—despite Lagos’s substantial revenue base.
