The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has confirmed Mr Bimbo Adekanmbi as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
The affirmation took place during the party’s governorship primary held at the Watershed Event Centre on Old Ife Road in Ibadan on Thursday.
APM State Chairman Mr Fagbemi Adegbenro announced that every member across the 351 wards had unanimously backed Adekanmbi’s candidacy.
He added that Adekanmbi’s bid for the governorship was the right direction for ensuring continued good governance in Oyo State.
Following the announcement, Adegbenro presented the Certificate of Return to Adekanmbi.
In his acceptance speech, Adekanmbi said he would build on the progressive initiatives of Gov. Seyi Makinde, which he claimed were already producing results.
He pledged that, with the support of Oyo’s citizens, his administration would usher the state into a period of sustained development.
“We will build upon the foundation laid by Gov. Makinde to deliver development in education, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, technology, and commerce sectors,” he stated.
He also promised to keep the security of lives and property at the forefront of governance if elected in 2027.
Adekanmbi thanked APM’s leadership and members of the PDP for the successful coalition.
During his remarks, Makinde expressed gratitude to the people for their support, particularly amid the recent political realignment.
He urged continued backing for APM to secure victory in the 2027 governorship election.
Makinde advised Adekanmbi to chart his own course to consolidate his administration’s achievements if he wins.
Speaking on security, Makinde noted that Amotekun was established in Ibadan when the nation delayed the creation of state police.
He said the security outfit has been working hard to protect lives and property in the state.
However, he argued that the establishment of state police should be the responsibility of state assemblies, not the Inspector General of Police, as recently directed by the Federal Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that two Independent National Electoral Commission officials witnessed the affirmation. (NAN)
