Supporters of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, staged a protest at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Oyo State on Thursday.

The demonstrators demanded that the party adopt direct primaries as the method for selecting its governorship candidate.

Daily Post reports that Adelabu resigned from his ministerial position last month to pursue his ambition of contesting the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.

He formally declared his intention to run on May 12, 2026.

The development follows the formal adoption of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus governorship candidate by state leaders and stakeholders ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

Alli’s selection was reaffirmed on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital, Ibadan.
