The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, declared that former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would not receive 10% of the vote in Rivers State.

Wike made the statement during a luncheon honoring candidates of the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.

He said that no candidate from any other party would win the governorship in 2027 except the one chosen by the Rainbow Coalition.

The former governor also noted that the ADC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had not previously participated in an election.

“ADC and NDC have not run an election before. They do not understand elections. They only understand defection. This is the time they will see elections in practice. They will gain experience and see what elections involve, starting with Rivers State,” he said.

“It is not enough to appear on TV and say ‘President, we love you.’ Commitment is shown by how many votes you can deliver to win an election, not by visiting the president in Lagos,” Wike added.

“In 2023, Atiku Abubakar never received 10% of the vote in Rivers State. It would be disheartening if he were to receive 11% in the next election,” he warned.

“If he were to get 10%, which he did not in 2023, it would mean he has improved. We will ensure the ADC does not achieve 10% here. A person who is not ready to work but only ready when food is ready is not available in the state. You must work hard,” Wike said.

“We won elections in this state when intimidation existed; now there is no intimidation,” he concluded.
