17 police officers killed in attack on Army Special Forces School in Yobe

The Nigeria Police Force announced that 17 police officers were killed in a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, on the early morning of 8 May 2026.

A statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force Public Relations Officer, said the officers were undergoing specialised operational training when terrorists launched a coordinated assault from multiple directions at about 1:15 a.m.

The statement also reported that several brave members of the Nigerian Army died while defending the facility.

Placid added that Inspector‑General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as courageous and dedicated, noting their exceptional patriotism and commitment to national security through participation in advanced counter‑terrorism and tactical training programmes.

The IGP expressed the entire Force’s condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the sacrifices of the deceased officers would never be forgotten.

In a show of solidarity, Yobe State Police Commissioner CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin visited the school on behalf of the IGP. He met with the Commandant, Brigadier General A.C. Enuagu, Army officers, and surviving police trainees.

Jibrin praised the resilience and courage of the survivors and urged them to remain steadfast in completing the training programme in honour of their fallen colleagues.

The IGP assured Nigerians that the Police Force, working closely with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, would continue efforts to bring the attackers to justice.

The Nigeria Police Force paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice and service of the fallen officers, stating that their dedication to duty will forever be honoured by the nation.
