12 Jigawa lawmakers lose APC seats amid political realignments

A significant political shift has unfolded within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, as 12 incumbent state and federal lawmakers were denied the opportunity to run again after the party’s primaries concluded.

Eight members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly were excluded from the APC ticket for the 2027 general elections, following a consensus arrangement adopted by party stakeholders across several constituencies.

The state lawmakers affected are Abubakar Sadiq Muhammad Jallo of Hadejia Constituency, Mas’ud Abdulrahman Naruwa of Babura, Idris Garba of Jahun, Ibrahim Ya’u of Gagarawa, Aliyu Ahmad Aliyu of Kiri‑Kasamma, Muhammad Adamu of Kafin Hausa, Yusuf Ahmed of Bulangu, and Aminu Sule of Ringim.

These lawmakers reportedly lost out during the stakeholders’ screening and consensus meetings that took place before the primaries.

Similarly, four sitting members of the House of Representatives failed to secure the APC’s nomination for another term.

They are Usman Ibrahim, who represented the Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency; Sa’idu Yusif of the Jahun/Miga Federal Constituency; Sa’adu Wada of the Ringim/Taura Federal Constituency; and Muhammad Muktar of the Kazaure/Gwiwa/Roni Federal Constituency.

Investigations revealed that the affected federal lawmakers did not participate in the APC primary elections, which concluded on Wednesday and late Saturday across the state.

The lawmakers were unable to gain the support of constituency leaders during APC stakeholders’ meetings, as delegates and party stakeholders chose to back new aspirants, marking what observers describe as a substantial political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
