A 100‑year‑old voter, Madam Oyedade, called on political leaders on Saturday to address Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, claiming that no citizen feels safe anymore.
While waiting for accreditation at Polling Unit 001 in Aye Ward, Aye Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the centenarian spoke to Vanguard in Yoruba. She said she went to the polls because she wanted the most qualified candidate to win the governorship election.
“I came out to vote because I want the best candidate to emerge,” she said.
When asked about the country’s security situation, Madam Oyedade urged President Bola Tinubu and state governors to take urgent action to find a lasting solution.
“I want to appeal to President Bola Tinubu and the state governors in the country to urgently find a lasting solution to insecurity. Nobody is safe now in Nigeria. It’s a pity,” she lamented.
The Ekiti governorship election saw many elderly voters across polling units in various parts of the state, with several of them arriving early to exercise their civic duty despite their age.
